Serious question, because this is what has always confused me about abolish the police people. What do you do about criminals with no police. There are people who murder, and rape, and commit other crimes, not because of circumstance or anything like that, but just simply because they are bad people. Call it evil, call it sociopathy, whatever. Certainly, a lot of crime is bread out of poverty and desperation. But a fair amount is just caused by genuinely bad people. Without police, how do you deal with that?

I absolutley agree that the militarization of police is a problem, sentencing reform is needed, prison reform in general is needed, the War on Drugs should be ended, police unions are a problem. There are actual real reforms that are needed. The “abolish the police,” stuff is just so dumb and outlandish, and impractical, it takes away from arguments from serious reforms. It makes criminal justice reform just seem so unserious and helps the people who oppose it by painting the majority who want reasonable reforms as in league with nutjobs.
